Our History

Where We Have Been

In August 1901, the Grangeville Christian Church was organized during a tent meeting held where Madison Lumber Company was located. There were 28 charter members. Plans were made to erect a building on the corner of State and North Third Street.

On October 6, 1901, the new building was dedicated, with E.T. McDonald, a graduate of Southern Christian University in Texas, chosen as the first pastor.

With a need for more room, a new bilding site was purchased at our current location on the corner of Idaho Avenue and West South First Street. The church building, constructed in October 1901, was moved to this new location in the spring of 1908.

From 1937 through 1957 there were several remodeling projects completed at the church, including digging a basement (mostly by hand).

In 1958 and 1961 additional lots were purchased to the west of the building site, on West South First Street, where in 1992 construction was started on the current building, and the old church building on the corner was demolished.

Three lots, across West South First Street, were purchased to provide for parking. Two houses on those lots have been demolished, and the third house is currently being rented, and will provide space for future parking needs.

Membership in the Grangeville Christian Church has grown from the original 28 members to something over 230 members currently.

Where We Are

With our 230 members plus visitors we are consistently over 80% full on any given Sunday. A family of four has a difficult time finding seating together if they don't arrive early.

A lot of time and energy is expended in setting up and tearing down seating/tables for various ministries and events, since the current worship hall also doubles as the fellowship hall.

A sanctuary is needed that will allow worship services to be separate from fellowship activities. This will provide space for future growth for our Church, and space for community events to be held, such as weddings and funerals.

The design we have chosen will provide seating for 325 with overflow seating into the fellowship area. This design utilizes the area we have available on our current lot, and will be an attractive and modern addition to the Grangeville community.

Price estimates for the completed building will probably approach one million dollars. An estimate for the exterior shell of the building came in at just under $500,000.

Out current building fund is $365,410.

Where We Are Going

Grangeville Christian Church LogoOur goal is expressed in our church logo:

Growing in Grace
Celebrating Christ
Changing Lives

It is all about bringing people to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

The new sanctuary will aid in reaching this goal of changing lives for Jesus Christ.

3:16 • The Numbers of Hope • The message of 3:16
A twenty-six-word parade of hope: beginning with God, ending with life, and urging us to do the same.
Brief enough to write on a napkin or memorize in a moment,
yet solid enough to weather two thousand years of storms and questions.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
