Stephanie's Musings...
June is an interesting time, on the heels of Memorial Day, and headed straight for the birthday of our nation - the 4th of July. I promise this newsletter article is more heartwrenching for me than I could ever convey. As I sit here and ponder my thoughts, I have already welled up with tears.
You see, the word sacrifice has come to mean more to my family in the last year than we could have ever imagined. I can say with assurance this fact will continue to strike even a deeper cord in our hearts as we travel into 2011. I have always had a passionate heart for the warriors of our nation, and I know full well that I am not alone. We are Americans and we are proud of it!
As of August 2009 our famiy is proud to say we have joined the military families across this great nation. We are not only Army. We are Cavalry! I cannot even tell you the bitter sweetness of this last year. Saying good-bye to our young man was the hardest thing I have ever done. I really didn't think I would ever be able to breathe again! And, I will never know exactly what he has gone through to be the man he is today. Honestly, I still struggle with him riding his bike downtown and he is almost 20. I certainly do not think he should drive a Stryker, shoot a gun, and for Pete's sake - what kind of mom let's her kid get shot at?!? But, our Seth is a warrior. God made him that way. He wrote poems in 6th grade about George Patton! He played with G.I. Joe's and had some kind of army battle, with those tiny toy soldiers, in progress on the hillside at our house for years. He has watched Saving Private Ryan more times than I can count. He knows facts about WWII that floor me. He is stubborn, independent, and can hit anything he aims at with a gun. He is an American Soldier and has always been so. It doesn't make it any easier to watch him do what God made him do. As we face him going to the Middle East I somehow imagine it getting a little tougher.
I looked up the word sacrifice to see what Mr. Webster says: giving up something or somebody of value. Just so you know, I am not giving him up! But I am okay to lend him out. After all, God loaned him to me and I can't give away what isn't mine to begin with.
So...where would we be if our Lord God hadn't agreed to give up His Son? Granted, it was also a loan, but what a loan. In the deal, we got-got-got and He gave-gave-gave! I would never be so vain as to say I have the mind of God, but I will be so bold as to say I appreciate more in the last year the sacrifice of the Father and Son than I ever have before. My heart twists and turns at the possibility of what the Middle East and every other war has meant to soldiers and their loved ones alike. While we are proud to be the family of an American Warrior, we are humbled as well. Happy Birthday America!!!!! Thank You Father God!
To all who have served and continue to serve THANK YOU!!!!!
To our military men and women, and especially the one I love deeply, thank you for recognizing the gift God gave you and giving up your life to pursue His plans for you!

3:16 • The Numbers of Hope • The message of 3:16
A twenty-six-word parade of hope: beginning with God, ending with life, and urging us to do the same.
Brief enough to write on a napkin or memorize in a moment,
yet solid enough to weather two thousand years of storms and questions.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
