In Scripture, mountains are often places where God reveals Himself and speaks with authority of divine revelation, covenant and His power. And now, like the greater Moses He is, going up a mountain to teach. But there’s a big difference. Moses went up to receive God’s word. Jesus went up to speak God’s word.
Every one of us should ask ourselves: Am I just in the crowd or am I a disciple? Do I listen to Him? Or do I follow Him? Because we can be around Jesus and not be surrendered to Jesus.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 - If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Being a Follower of Christ is not a self-help plan, but it is a selfimprovement
plan. Our improvement comes because of Christ through
our abiding in Him. We abide in Him through time in scripture and in
prayer and we do our best. He is the one who does the rest. One thing
being a Follow of Christ does share with most self-help plans?
It does not work if we put no effort into it! We don’t just invite Jesus
into our life and then sit in a chair and wait for the magic to happen.
He calls us and we respond. Maybe shyly, maybe clumsily, but we
respond, nonetheless.

8 AGAIN, THE DEVIL TOOK HIM TO A VERY HIGH MOUNTAIN AND SHOWED HIM ALL THE KINGDOMS OF THE WORLD AND THEIR GLORY.

A shallow, occasional relationship with God’s Word
leads to shallow, occasional thanksgiving.
If all we feed on is breaking news, social media and
advertising, our hearts will be shaped by the world.
But if the Word of Christ is dwelling in us richly, our
hearts become shaped by God.
